Siemens, one of the most important technology companies, registered in Romania a consolidated turnover of over one billion lei in fiscal year 2018 (1.10.2017 – 30.09.2018).

“Romania’s business has seen a sustained evolution, with the aggregate turnover of Siemens local companies showing a growth of over 22% in the fiscal year 2018, compared to the previous financial year,” said Titus Loew, CFO Siemens Romania.

„We have grown, we have extended our factories as well, but we are not allowed to specify an investment figure. We have invested a lot in human resources development”, Loew told energynomics.ro.

The increase was mainly driven by the increased dynamics of investments in energy and rail infrastructure, but also by robust results in the industrial automation and medical equipment sector.

“2018 was marked by the completion of some important projects, but also by the acquisition of new contracts, including in the Republic of Moldova. Next, we see development potential in all our areas of activity, mainly under the impact of two major trends. Firstly, the increase in digitalization, which leads to a change in business models and creates the need for rapid adaptation in all economic sectors. An example is production, where we have been discussing for some years a new industrial revolution. The second factor of development is the positive evolution in recent years in the field of investments in railway and energy infrastructure, vital sectors for sustainable development of Romania, “said Cristian Secoșan, CEO of Siemens Romania and Republic of Moldova.

Among the projects that Siemens completed last year are the modernization and construction of transformation plants, including 14 units in the Republic of Moldova. The company has also delivered digitalization and industrial automation solutions for a number of projects and has helped to equip several office buildings with intelligent management systems.

Regarding the R&D centers in Romania, the company continued to develop operations, one of the directions being the formation of a team dedicated to cyber security in Bucharest.

And the number of Siemens employees rose slightly, exceeding 2,200 people, on September 30, 2018.

“Human resources are the most valuable asset of a company, and in the last years they have also been a major source of development for Romania. The IT sector, for example, has attracted and continues to attract players from all over the world, and Romania is already positioned as a pole of research and development in the region. It is a great chance and it is our duty to try to develop these talents, “added Cristian Secoșan.

In addition to the complex training programs of its own employees, Siemens Romania has had over 1,600 students in various practice and internship programs over the years. Among the newest development projects devoted to young students are a program of practice in the field of Artificial Intelligence, organized in Brasov. Siemens also donated equipment and software with a total value of more than 300,000 euros for endowing more laboratories in large university centers in Romania and the Republic of Moldova.
