More than half of the final consumers of electricity have already opted for a competitive supplier 6 months after the liberalization of the market, and those who have not yet done so can avoid the price increases from July 1, with advantageous offers in the market both for natural gas, as well as electricity, said the vice president of the National Authority for Electricity (ANRE), according to Profit.ro.

“The elimination of regulated prices took place on January 1. At this time, of the 8.9 million household customers, about 3 million were in the competitive market, so a third of customers had a competitive contract. After five months, at the end of May, another 1.3 million consumers signed a competitive contract, so we reached a percentage of 48%. We have an average of about 200-250,000 new contracts concluded each month, so at the end of June we will have over half of the household electricity consumers with a signed competitive contract,” said Zoltan Nagy-Bege.

“As prices in the wholesale markets evlove, so do the retail household consumers ones. At the four suppliers of last resort, the increases for active energy are somewhere between 3% and 13%, which leads to an increase in the bill by up to 7%,” the ANRE official also explained.
