For Huawei, the oil and gas industry is one of the most important market segments, said Zhu Qiang, Senior Solution Manager Huawei EBG Global Energy Unit, at the conference “Oil&Gas and Geothermal – Transferable skills and technologies”, organized by Energynomics.

”We are consistently trying to understand and analyze the major business demands and challenges of the industry players, to help them for more solid and thrive performance by using the newest digital technologies”, said Zhu Qiang.

”Oil and gas industry needs digital transformation. Although the fundamentals of oil and gas is still solid; the landscape of the energy sector has changed by the pandemic recession and ongoing structural transformation. The changes will include a peak in demand for oil, forecasted for 2030, and renewable energy share will increase; for example, China will reduce its carbon emissions by 65% by 2030. The share of energy from non-fossil sources will increase to 25% of total consumption by then. Moreover, with net-zero emissions by 2060, all these challenges are weighing on the oil and gas industry,” Zhu Qiang says.

All companies have included digitization among the key factors for the future. The cost of digitization has fallen and the wide range of products has created real competition in the market. “Huawei is committed on the digital transformation journey with our customers, based on its own experience, being a global technological leader. We propose a universal methodology for oil and gas customers to support them in the digital transformation process.”

It, therefore, requires one transformation vision from the top, two core driving forces: business element and technical element; also to implement three key processes (planning, building and operating) with a blueprint. Meanwhile, digital culture, digital knowledge, and digital skills will provide further assurance for the success of the digital transformation.

Digital transformation involves four key factors: connectivity, the digital platform, data-enabled and artificial intelligence, he said, providing some successful examples and case studies.
