Veolia is aiming to double the quantity of plastic it recycles around the world by 2023. The company uses recycled plastic to produce secondary raw material of the same quality as the original one but with less than 70% carbon emissions, according to Mariana Iteva, Deputy Country Director for Bulgaria & CEE Industry Development Director, Veolia Bulgaria.

” At the same time we are aiming to further reduce the energy consumption within the company and this is can be done with the digitalization of the processes, automation, and using more efficient equipment. We firmly believe that digitalization is here to really enhance and accelerate the green transition”, Iteva said, at the conference “Regional Approach Sofia – Energy Goes Both Ways”, organized by Energynomics.

Veolia provides water, waste, and energy management solutions to facilitate access to essential services and natural resources, and efficiently conserve, use, and recycle those natural resources. One of these solutions, called hub grade, is aimed to achieve operational and environmental efficiency and reduce the CO2 footprint of municipal, industrial, and even commercial clients.

”This is a combination of human expertise based on years of operating similar facilities, whether they are water facilities, wastewater treatment plants or energy-producing facilities. They are combined with digital power to make sure we achieve this efficiency which is the nowadays focus. We can guarantee between 5% and 25% energy saving depending on the facilities and furthermore we can expand the lifespan of the equipment which is managed. There is a high demand in Central and Eastern Europe and we are talking to shopping malls, and industrial production facilities”, Iteva added.

The Veolia branch in Bulgaria’s capital, Sofia, has reached an 86% level of energetic self-sufficiency and plans to become totally independent in two or three years’ time.
