Unit 1 of the Cernavodă Nuclear Power Plant is operating at nominal power, as the works relating to the modification of the operating parameters of the turbine condenser due to the accumulation of impurities in the water have been completed, Nuclearelectrica informs.

“The power reduction of Cernavodă NPP Unit 1 took place on the night of August 23, 2022 and on August 24, 2022 and was necessary to carry out some work to modify the operating parameters of the turbine condenser (the classic part of the plant) due to the accumulation of impurities in the water (algae, mud). The reduction of power and the completion of the works were carried out in accordance with the specific procedures of CNE Cernavodă and did not have any impact on the personnel, nuclear safety, the environment and the population,” says the company in a statement sent to the Bucharest Stock Exchange on Thursday.

On Wednesday, Nuclearelectrica announced that it had reduced by 10% the power of Unit 1 of the Cernavodă Power Plant, on the night of August 23 and the morning of August 24, to carry out some works to modify the operating parameters of the turbine condenser, due to the accumulation of impurities in the water.

Nuclearelectrica, the only nuclear energy producer in Romania, contributes approximately 20% of nuclear energy to the total energy production, by operating the two Candu units, Units 1 and 2 of the Cernavodă Nuclear Power Plant, each with an installed production capacity of 700 MW. At the same time, Nuclearelectrica contributes 33% to the total energy production without CO2 emissions in Romania.
