UniCredit has become a participant in the Bucharest Stock Exchange (BVB) and offers access to the local capital market to any institutional investor who has Romania on their radar, claims Mihaela Lupu, CEO of UniCredit Bank.

Thus, starting with August 15, 2025, UniCredit Bank, one of the main financial institutions in Romania, has become a participant in the BVB trading system. Following the merger process between UniCredit Bank and Alpha Bank, UniCredit Bank took over all financial investment services regarding capital market trading, previously provided by Alpha Bank Romania. UniCredit Bank will also continue the distribution of government securities under the Fidelis program, through its extensive network of branches throughout the country.

“The clients taken over from Alpha Bank, whom I once again welcome to UniCredit, will benefit from an improved financial experience, an expanded network of branches and ATMs, as well as state-of-the-art banking technology, complementing the range of investment products offered to clients with instruments listed on the Bucharest Stock Exchange. It is a natural step for us. We now have a diversified offer, mixes adapted to different asset classes, so that all our clients benefit from competitive returns, but also from comfortable risk conditions. Beyond the diversity of products, we consider it an opportunity for the Romanian capital market that we will use the distribution capacity of the Group we are part of, UniCredit, a participant in the Bucharest Stock Exchange. It means that we will be able to offer access to the local capital market to any institutional investor who has Romania on their radar. Any company or bond issue listed locally can be accessed by our group’s clients, thus contributing to the development of the Romanian capital market,” he stated. Lupu, at the event that marked the bank’s debut as a participant in the Bucharest Stock Exchange’s trading system.

She also highlighted the changes that occurred in the bank’s structure and portfolio, with the takeover of Alpha Bank. She recalled that the new entity will have a market share of 11% by total assets and 13% by total loans and 11% by total deposits attracted from customers, according to Agerpres.

“We have just successfully completed the merger, on August 15, with Alpha Bank, taking over the financial investment services regarding capital market trading, both the clients and the team that deals with this activity. Since the beginning of this week, the Alpha Trade application has become Unicredit Brokerage – UC Brokerage and can be accessed by clients directly on our website, unicredit.ro. With the completion of the merger process, we have become a stronger bank, better positioned for the future, this consolidation bringing benefits to both clients and partners. With the new bank, we now have a market share of 11% – by total assets, 13% – by total loans and here we include UniCredit Consumer Financing, and also 11% – by total deposits attracted from clients. Therefore, UniCredit ranks third in the market in terms of lending and I insist on discussing this because this confirms our strong role in financing the real economy”, mentioned Mihaela Lupu.

UniCredit Bank currently has a network of approximately 300 branches and the bank’s clients can use an extensive network of 900 ATMs throughout the country.

After the merger with Alpha Bank Romania, the new bank has over 4,800 employees.
