    Transelectrica announced an investment program worth approximately 914 million lei in 2026, over 30% higher than the investment expenditures made in 2025, which amounted to 691 million lei, mainly dedicated to the modernization and re-engineering of the Electric Transmission Network (RET).

    The total value of investment expenditures made in 2025 was above the level of 665.7 million lei achieved in 2024 and significantly above the level in 2023 (471.95 million lei).

    Compared to the initial approved annual investment program, the degree of achievement was 104.9%, respectively 96.5% compared to the revised program to correlate the programmed expenses with the stage of execution of the works, which reflects an efficient execution and a consolidated operational capacity. The proposed investment program for the current year exceeds 914 million lei, and for the years 2027 and 2028 presents a significant growth trend. This trajectory reflects a sustained evolution of the Company’s investment effort, but especially an intensification of the direction towards a systemic modernization of the RET, say TEL officials.

    In 2025, the expenses for the company’s own investment projects represented the majority component, respectively 594.22 million lei, of which over 90% were made for ongoing projects from previous years. In parallel, investments financed from the connection and site release tariff amounted to 96.82 million lei, supporting the development of the infrastructure necessary for the integration of new electricity production capacities and the relocation of networks.

    During the past year, Transelectrica has consolidated access to European financing, by signing six design and execution contracts financed from non-reimbursable funds: three investments financed by the Modernization Fund and three financed by the National Recovery and Resilience Plan (PNRR), while at the same time having the procurement procedure underway for the design and execution of three more investments financed by the National Recovery and Resilience Plan (PNRR) (the contracts being concluded at the beginning of 2026.

    Investments with impact on the systemic development of the RET

    The company started and continued in 2025 major investment projects aimed at increasing the operational safety of the National Electricity System (SEN), integrating renewable energy and developing interconnections with neighboring states. The portfolio of the most important projects underway or initiated in 2025 includes strategic investments such as:

    • Modernization and transition to the 400 kV of the Stâlpu and Teleajen stations, with a major role in evacuating energy from the Dobrogea area and increasing the transport capacity to Muntenia;
    • Development of interconnections through the 400 kV Suceava – Bălți OHL project, on the territory of Romania, which significantly contributes to the integration of the Republic of Moldova into the ENTSO-E network and to increasing energy security in the region;
    • Strengthening the 400 kV infrastructure in the southwest of the country through projects such as the 400 kV Timișoara – Arad OHL and the modernization of the Porțile de Fier energy node by switching to 400 kV voltage the Porțile de Fier – Reșița – Timișoara – Săcălaz – Arad axis;
    • Construction of the 220 kV Ostrovu Mare Station, which will be located in Mehedinți County, in the immediate vicinity of the Porțile de Fier II HPP;
    • Installation of photovoltaic power plants (PVPPs) and energy storage facilities, intended powering internal services from the power stations of CNTEE Transelectrica SA, which have the role of reducing Transelectrica’s operating costs, by reducing the costs of purchasing electricity necessary for internal services from 29 stations. It also contributes to increasing the level of safety in powering internal services from the stations and reducing greenhouse gas emissions;
    • Implementation of SMART GRID solutions and online monitoring systems to optimize the operation of high-voltage lines;

    These investments, those in progress, but also those planned to be initiated, create a real platform for economic development. Transelectrica will facilitate the integration of renewable energy in the Dobrogea and Banat areas, with approximately 5,000 additional MW to be available in these regions by 2027.

    Strategic projects completed in 2025

    The company completed projects with a direct impact on the performance of the National Power System (SEN). Among the important achievements of the year are:

    • Refurbishment of the 220 kV and 110 kV voltage levels in the Resita Substation and the construction of the 400 kV Resita Substation, a major step in the modernization of the Banat axis and in increasing regional interconnection capacity;
    • Completion of the 220 kV double-circuit Ostrovu Mare OHL, which will play an important role in the evacuation of energy produced in the Portile de Fier area and will increase supply security, after the completion of the Ostrov Station;
    • Completion of the first STATCOM (Static Synchronous Compensator) installation in the Electric Transmission Network (RET), in the 400/220/110/20 kV Sibiu Sud power station. The investment is part of a major project financed by the Modernization Fund, namely “Installation of two modern means of reactive power compensation in the Sibiu Sud and Bradu stations” and marks an essential step for the modernization of Romania’s energy infrastructure and the operational security of the National Power System (SEN). The entire project will be completed in the third quarter of 2026;
    • Phased implementation of intelligent monitoring systems for power lines, within the project financed from the Modernization Fund “Optimization of the operation of existing 400 kV overhead lines in the National Power System, used in interconnection and for power evacuation from the Cernavodă nuclear power plant and renewable energy plants in Dobrogea, by installing on-line monitoring systems” (SMART GRID type).

    Strategic direction: a secure network in support of the Romanian economy

    Transelectrica’s RET Development Plan for the next 10 years aims at large investments, oriented towards energy security, digitalization and the development of smart networks (SMART GRID). These investments will allow increasing the capacity for integrating renewable energy, expanding interconnections and consolidating Romania’s position in the European energy sector.

    Through its 2025 performance, Transelectrica demonstrates the strategic role it plays as Transmission and System Operator, a key company in Romania, in transforming the interconnected national energy infrastructure and supporting the energy transition, but also in developing the Romanian economic environment.
