Transelectrica inaugurated the upgraded 220/110/20 kV Ungheni Electric Power Station, with a total investment of over 10 million euros, the works being executed by the Siemens Energy SRL – Emsens Prod SRL Association.

The 220/110/20 kV Ungheni Electric Power Station is an energy node with an important role in the electricity supply of Mureș county, but also in the supply of a large consumer, namely the Azomureș plant. The re-engineering process consisted in replacing the existing equipment with new, up-to-date equipment in the technological field, which ensures the operation and bringing the installations to a level of safety and reliability corresponding to the energy infrastructure in the area, in order to increase the quality of the electricity transport service.

“We can affirm with all responsibility that this investment serves both to increase the security of supply for local consumption, but also to Transelectrica’s strategic objective of creating the conditions for economic development, by ensuring network conditions for large industrial consumers. Refurbishing the Ungheni station was a project with many challenges that once again confirms the serious commitment assumed by Transelectrica for the modernization of the network, a fact demonstrated by the intensive pace of investment of the Company in the recent period,” said Ștefăniță Munteanu, the president of the company’s Directorate.

The process of upgrading the entire station, by equipping it with high-performance equipment and intelligent surveillance, diagnostic and remote control systems, was carried out in accordance with the ANRE general energy regulations and with European requirements regarding the current performance standards provided for a sustainable energy infrastructure. The completion of this large investment has considerably increased the safety in serving the users of the electric transmission network, also contributing to the substantial reduction of the costs regarding the maintenance of the installations.

The 220/110/20 kV Ungheni Electric Power Station was put into operation in 1973, having a connecting role between the regions of Moldova and Transylvania.
