Liberty Galati invests 150 mln. lei in a new cooling facility

Liberty Galati is preparing the launch of a new modern accelerated cooling facility at the Thick Plate Rolling Mill. Following an investment worth 150 million lei, the accelerated cooling facility will allow the company to strengthen its presence in the most profitable market segments, increase the degree of productivity and expand the portfolio of value-added products.

“This state-of-the-art accelerated cooling facility represents another important step in Liberty Galati’s strategy to expand its portfolio of high value-added products and increase production flexibility and profitability. In modern sheet metal rolling mills, as we have here in Galati, the accelerated cooling system is essential to have more resistant products, which require precision and high cooling speed. The project will be completed next year and will enable us to meet our customers’ demand for value-added and superior quality products,” said Sandip Biswas, CEO, Liberty Primary Steel & Mining.

The investment in this new facility is another step taken by our team from Galati in achieving our long-term goals. Along the way, we are delighted to collaborate with partners with world-class expertise such as Primetals, which has developed some of the most advanced cooling technologies,” added Ajay Aggarwal, Liberty Steel Group President Europe and Chairman of the Board of Liberty Galati.

Primetals Technologies, a leading global manufacturer, will supply Liberty Galati with the new MULPIC (Multi-Purpose Interrupted Cooling) system and water treatment plant. MULPIC is a technology that provides a sheet cooling system in the rolling line, capable of achieving the desired cooling rate and temperatures, depending on the dimensions of each product.

Currently, Liberty Galati’s Thick Sheet Mill produces sheets up to 4,000 mm wide and 180 mm thick, as well as TMCP (Thermo-mechanically Controlled Processed) grades and has an integrated flow that includes new equipment hot leveling equipment, an ultrasonic testing equipment and a marking equipment.
