BCR aims to finance renewable energy projects with a capacity of at least 150 MW this year, but the real potential of connecting such units to the grid is around 500 MW.

“In 2023 we aim to finance at least 150 MW of renewable energy”, said Flaviu Iliescu, Senior Banker Energy & Utilities BCR, at the conference “Digitalization and energy efficiency – Timișoara”, organized by Energynomics.

From the bank’s perspective, renewable energy capacities of no more than 500-600 MW will reach the grid connection stage this year.

BCR is in the process of implementing a process to expedite the approval of financing for projects smaller than 20 MW. At the same time, the bank intends to streamline operations and internal approval flows so that “it is as good as possible for the end customer”. “We are the last link in the implementation of these projects”, added Iliescu.

The total portfolio of net loans granted to clients by BCR increased by 16.4% year on year as of September 30, 2022. The bank granted new loans worth 7.7 billion lei in the first nine months of 2022 to individuals (mortgage loans and consumer) and micro-enterprises.
