Motor Oil Renewable Energy has begun production testing at the Stâlpu 2 project, a hybrid photovoltaic park with energy storage in Buzău County, marking the company’s first project outside of Greece.

The project has an installed photovoltaic capacity of 63 MW and includes a 10 MW / 21 MWh battery storage system. According to information published by the company and reported by the Greek press, the estimated annual production is approximately 76 GWh.

The start of testing for the Stâlpu 2 project is significant for the Romanian market because it confirms that hybrid PV+BESS projects are moving from the development phase into operation. In a context where grid access, flexibility, and storage integration are becoming increasingly important criteria for bankability and project execution, the MORE project sends a new signal regarding the maturation of the solar-plus-battery segment in Romania.

For Motor Oil Renewable Energy, Stâlpu 2 represents both its first international asset and its first hybrid project combining photovoltaic generation and energy storage.
