Enery has important projects in the pipeline, but all of them are accompanied by storage – without which the problem of resource variation in the network cannot be solved, says Liviu Gavrilă, CEO of Enery Romania. “Beyond the reception of the 54 MWp Titu PV project (we are currently going through the steps of preparation for commercial operation) with which we reach approximately 250 MW operational (PV, Wind, Hydro and BESS), by far the most important thing to mention is the focus on the challenges of the construction phase of the Ogrezeni project (761 MWp/534 MWAC and 1GWh storage). In addition to this, we plan to start the construction of our first co-located storage project (at one of our existing projects) as soon as possible,” says Liviu Gavrilă. “Storage will remain a priority in 2026. Without storage, the volatility risks, those given by negative intervals, by market fluctuations will be very difficult to manage in the coming years”, claims Liviu Gavrilă, in an exclusive interview for Energynomics.

What will be the main growth directions of the company in the coming period? What will be the main investments? What funds will you attract from banks? But through European projects?

Enery will continue to consolidate its three business lines with which it operates on the Romanian market, namely: energy production from renewable sources, portfolio optimization and complex solutions for industrial customers.

Specifically, in the production area, beyond the reception of the PV Titu 54 MWp project (we are currently going through the steps of preparation for commercial operation) with which we reach approximately 250 operational MW (PV, Wind, Hydro and BESS), by far the most important thing to mention is the focus on the challenges of the construction phase of the Ogrezeni project (761 MWp/534 MWAC and 1GWh storage). In addition to this, we plan to start building our first co-located storage project as soon as possible (at one of our existing projects). We have several other projects in various stages (production, stand-alone storage, complex industrial solutions, etc.) but I do not want to make any disclosures about them until they take the decisive step. A decisive step, to answer your question about funds, involves completing all the aspects that transform an initiative into something tangible: securing a significant part of the revenues through long-term contracts (PPA/tolling/spread, etc., forms of long-term hedge), securing financing (our financing team has proven its effectiveness in recent years by managing some of the largest financings in the market), securing key technical elements and eliminating any technical or commercial risk. Ori Enery carefully prepares and synchronizes all these elements to guarantee the success of the initiatives.

In the commercial area, beyond the most efficient management of our own assets, we will consolidate and develop our portfolio optimization company by increasing the portfolio of external clients to whom we provide energy management and optimization services (market access, scheduling, market optimization) but also by offering the full spectrum of optimization services, on all markets. The successes of Enery Portofio Optimziation both in the area of arbitrage (PZU and/or ID) and balancing clearly show that we are a reliable, stable partner that maximizes revenues by operating on all markets and together with SmartPulse (platform with which we have that strategic partnership in the area of system services)

What were the main results and transactions of 2025? What are the targets for 2026? What are the main performance indicators achieved in 2025 and what are the ones pursued for 2026?

As every year, we focus primarily on achieving our financial targets in order to honor our obligations to both shareholders and our financiers. The results of 2025 are broadly in line with the proposed targets are also an incentive for us that we can do everything we set out to do. I don’t want to list them because beyond the numbers (installed capacity, GWh managed, EBITDA, etc.) they do not fully reflect the hard work, support and dedication of the team to which it is due and which deserves all the appreciation. There are of course also things that we would have liked to manage better, but 2025 was a year that provided us with the foundations to become, as I said before, from important to relevant on the local and regional market.

We also want to take new steps in consolidating and developing the portfolio in 2026, to adapt to changes that may occur in the market, to maximize the value of each MWh produced by us or by the partners who have entrusted us with the operation of their assets, to progress according to the time plan in ongoing projects, to strengthen our team and maintain our motivation and focus and, last but not least, to make the most inspired strategic decisions because in such a constantly changing market, it is among the most challenging elements.

How do you see the future of storage in 2026? What are the efforts for the construction of a hybrid park and how long does it take to pay for itself?

Storage will remain a priority in 2026. Without storage, the risks of volatility, those given by negative intervals, market fluctuations will be very difficult to manage in the coming years. The efforts are considerable. From the procedural elements related to the network to the choice of the right technical solution, it is a matter of a lot of skill to have a successful integration and a hybrid operation without limitations. Regarding amortization, it depends a lot on how to size it, the commercial/use strategy, the technical solution and the interdependencies with the rest of the portfolio. It is a difficult question and I think the correct answer is that it differs from case to case. Certainly the first to implement will be those with the lowest recovery period.

What are the main problems on the electricity market? Why do we have high prices, despite the entry of new capacities into the market?

Market liquidity is one of the key factors. Added to it is interventionism, which always has a backlash and last but not least, let’s not forget that we are in a common market. The important thing is to learn to secure ourselves in the medium and long term so as not to be so exposed to the spot market. I am confident that all the projects that are being talked about will have a beneficial effect and, along with storage, investments in all technologies will matter and in the medium term, we will also see a normalization of prices.

How do you see the evolution of the energy market as a whole in Romania, but also in the markets where you are already present, in 2026 and in the short term?

The signals are positive. Decarbonization and sustainable energy remain a fundamental element. Green energy is the fastest to implement, the cheapest and, with storage, the problem of variability is also solved. These are favorable premises. There will of course be inefficient/unsuccessful projects, but I am confident that this competition of projects is and will be the answer for continuous development.
