The delay with which the authorities manage to evaluate the multitude of renewable energy projects and the lack of specialists among designers and developers endanger the absorption of European funds allocated to the energy sector, said Roxana Mircea, Managing Partner at REI Grup, at the 9th edition of the Energy Strategy Summit, an event organized by Energynomics.

“We are going through an interesting period in which we have a lot of money on the table. We would like to be able to be more efficient and ministries to learn from each other. We don’t have many specialists or companies to carry out these projects. We see very few projects implemented in the country”, said Mircea.

Although Romania has considerable funds at its disposal, they are still not accessible. For example, Romania has not yet absorbed funds of 595 million euros from 2022, to which other potential financings through RepowerEU are added. Attracting this money is delayed due to the slowness in evaluating projects submitted by developers.

A solution to expediting the attraction of these funds would be for investors to obtain the approvals needed to start work on the new production capacities in time. However, in 2024 cumulative projects of “at least a few GW” could be installed in Romania.

“It is difficult for everyone to manage so much money with limited resources after all. You can’t turn a few thousand people into designers or consultants overnight. But we must do everything in our power to absorb this money and carry out these projects”, Mircea also said.

Energy Strategy Summit 2023 was organised by Energynomics with the support of ABB, ASTRASUN Solar, BCR, CEZ Romania, Eaton Electric, Electrica Furnizare, Electro Service RB, Elektra Renewable Support, EnergoBit, Enevo Group, E.ON, Finder, Huawei, MET România Energy, OMV Petrom, OX2 România, Phoenix Contact, Photomate, ProCredit Bank, REI Grup, Renomia Gallagher, Romgaz, Schneider Electric, Signify, Transelectrica, Taw Energy, Volt, WIKA, Wiren, Alexandrion Group, Aqua Carpatica, Klarmedia and Mobexpert.
