Siemens announced the expansion of two factories in Romania, in Sibiu and Buziaş, according to a release received by energynomics.ro.

“Romania is a center of interest for companies with activities in production amid well-qualified workforce and competitive costs, and proximity to Western markets. Expansion of production and investment in the research and development demonstrates Siemens’ commitment to Romania, assumed by our contribution starting 111 years ago,” said George Costache, CEO Siemens SRL.

“About 14 years ago, the Siemens group opened the first factory in Romania. The freshly completed investment represents a new stage in the development of sequential production capacity”, also said Aurel Balo, CEO, Simea Sibiu SRL, a Siemens subsidiary.

The Sibiu plant, inaugurated in 2004, was relocated in July to a new building, located in the “West Zone Industrial Park” in Sibiu. The 7,800 sqm of industrial and office buildings is an area 110% bigger than that previous one.

Electrical installations to the factory were made by Siemens and the energy losses are reduced through the use of high efficiency transformers.

The relocated unit to the “West Zone Industrial Park” produces power cables for industrial electronics and rolling material, sheet metal parts for industrial and rail casts, also casts for steel locomotives, metro and other railway assemblies and industrial rectifiers’ carcasses. New product development department of painting involves also expanding into a new area – of wind energy, by welding the metal structure to wind stators, which will begin later this year.

The Siemens factory in Buziaş past through a expansion as well in early August, when it opened the third hall of the factory. The new hall has an area of about 1,200 square meters and represents an expansion of nearly 60% of the total area of the factory in Buziaş, and also a development of the production.
