Serbian and Romania Prime Ministers, Aleksandar Vucic and Victor Ponta, discussed the possibility for Serbia to import natural gas from the Romanian part of Black Sea part, Reuters said, quoted by Mediafax.

I just finished the talks with Romanian Prime Minister Victor Ponta, about getting gas from Romanian part of the Black Sea”, said Prime Minister Vucic, having also options open with Russia through pipelines from Turkey, Greece and Macedonia, also notes the news agency. Serbia currently imports 90% of its gas from Russia through Ukraine

ExxonMobil and OMV Petrom announced in February 2012 that they made a significant gas discovery after drilling Domino-1 well in the Black Sea, preliminary estimates placing the deposit of natural gas to 42-84 billion cubic meters. Other wells were made since then.

Halliburton seeks, in turn, to increase the production of mature oil fields in Romania and to participate in development projects deep into the Black Sea, said a senior regional representative of the American company.

Ponta suggested in December, in an interview with international news agencies, that Romania should focus on the exploitation of shale gas deposits in the Black Sea shelf. According to the Premier, one of Romania’s priorities will be to build a pipeline to transport the gas to the national grid, a project estimated at over one billion euros, records Mediafax.
