RoPower Nuclear, the project company responsible for the construction and commissioning of the Doicești SMR project, announces the signing of a contract with Studsvik Scandpower, one of the global leaders in the field of software dedicated to nuclear fuel analysis. The Swedish company is part of the Studsvik AB group, founded in 1947, with the aim of developing nuclear facilities.

“Nuclear calculation codes are used mainly for the simulation and analysis of nuclear fuel and reactor safety. We were looking for a solution established on the market, offered by a company with proven experience, practically, in the development of projects applicable to nuclear power plants using the pressurized water reactor (PWR) principle, and Studsvik Scandpower precisely met our expectations”, stated the Technical Director of RoPower Nuclear, Dr. Eng. Dan Șerbănescu.

“The Doicești SMR plant will largely use the same technological principle as over 300 other nuclear power plants around the world, to which new protection systems are added to ensure a high degree of nuclear safety and economic efficiency. We must remember that SMR technology is not necessarily new, in the field of nuclear fuel use and beyond. It is a technology proven in almost half a century of operation and experience. That is why we are calling on teams and companies that have an impeccable reputation in the nuclear field, such as Studsvik Scandpower,” he explained.

“We are proud to contribute our already tested software tools to this innovative project,” said Art Wharton, President of the Studsvik Scandpower Group. “Romania is setting a precedent for the new generation of nuclear energy and we are honored to be part of this endeavor.”

The Doicești SMR project is currently in the 2nd phase of design, engineering and construction (FEED 2), with the American company Fluor Corporation as the main contractor. The final investment decision is expected in 2026.
