August 2025 marks an 89% increase in registrations compared to the same period last year. This confirms that predictability and fair prices play a key role in drivers’ choices, even in the absence of state subsidies, according to an analysis by LEKTRI.CO, one of the main players in the electric mobility sector in Romania.
According to data centralized by LEKTRI.CO, 1,335 new electric vehicles were registered in August (of which 57 were light commercial vehicles – LCV), representing 6.11% of the total new vehicle registrations this month.
“We are observing a continuous consolidation of the electric car market in Romania. Even without the Rabla program, which this year was postponed compared to the usual calendar, the August figures confirm that there is a solid demand. We estimate that 2025 will end with a similar level or even above that of 2024, which confirms the maturation of the local e-mobility market,” said Claudiu Suma, CEO of LEKTRI.CO.
In August 2025, the Hyundai Kona dominated the top of registrations (298 units) and Inster in third place (110 units), with Tesla Model 3 ranked in 2nd place (176 units). During this time, Ford Puma and Explorer completed the Top 5, and Dacia Spring surprised negatively, dropping to 28th place with only 8 registered units.
In the first 8 months of 2025, the electric vehicle fleet increased by 7,005 units, with 7,929 new cars registered and 924 retired, and with only 4 months left and 4,748 units needed to match the 2024 level, the forecast indicates at least maintaining last year’s performance; the excellent performance in August raised the Hyundai Kona to 3rd place in the annual ranking, the Hyundai Inster to 7th, while the Dacia Spring remains the leader, but risks losing first position if reduced sales persist.
At the level of the entire electric car fleet in Romania, the Dacia Spring remains the most popular electric car, with 19,146 units (32.9% of the total). It is followed by the Tesla Model 3 (5,528 units) and the Tesla Model Y (3,623 units). The Hyundai Kona, thanks to its recent performance, climbed to 4th place in the overall ranking, surpassing the Renault Zoe. At the end of August, the electric car fleet in Romania reached 58,235 registered units, including the 50 vehicles deregistered during the month.
In parallel with the growth of the car fleet, the charging infrastructure is constantly expanding. Major operators such as Renovatio e-Charge, Eldrive, PPC Blue, E.ON Drive, Mol Plugee, EVConnect, Plugpoint, EvGoSmartCharge, OMV-Petrom and others continue to install new charging points monthly, keeping Romania at a sustained pace of development.
