Almost a tenth (9.2%) of the European Union population had problems heating their homes sufficiently in 2024, a better situation than the 10.6% in 2023, according to data published on Monday by Eurostat.
Among the member states, the highest percentages of people who cannot heat their homes sufficiently are in Bulgaria and Greece (both 19%), followed by Lithuania (18%) and Spain (17.5%). In contrast, the lowest shares were recorded in Finland (2.7%), Poland and Slovenia (both 3.3%), Estonia and Luxembourg (both 3.6%), according to Agerpres.
In Romania, 10.8% of residents said that in 2024 they could not afford to heat their home sufficiently, down from 12.5% in 2023. Romania is doing better in this regard than Spain (17.5%) and France (11.8%).
