Romanian FDI more than tripled – 5.3 bln. euro at nine months

Foreign direct investment reached 5.279 billion euro in the first nine months, compared to 1.677 billion euros in the same period in 2020, representing an increase of 214.79%, according to data from the National Bank of Romania.

“Direct investments of non-residents in Romania amounted to 5.279 billion euros (compared to 1.677 billion euros in January-September 2020), of which equity investments (including estimated net reinvested profit) amounted to a net value of 4.383 billion euro and intragroup loans recorded a net value of 896 million euro,” the BNR statement said, according to Agerpres.

The number of newly established foreign capital companies in Romania increased in the first nine months of 2021 by 43.49%, compared to the same period in 2020, to 4,164 units, according to data centralized by the National Office of the Trade Register (ONRC).

The 4,164 new companies had a subscribed share capital in the total amount of 33.072 million dollars, 80% higher than that of the companies registered in January-September 2020, of 18.368 million dollars.

In September, 552 companies with foreign participation in the capital were registered. Depending on the fields, most registrations were signed in wholesale and retail trade, car and motorcycle repair (27.54% of the total), professional, administrative, scientific and technical activities (22.83%) and transport, storage and communications (15.04%).

At the end of September 2021, in Romania there were 235,140 companies with foreign participation in the share capital. The value of the subscribed capital was of 64.2227 billion dollars.

The largest number of companies with foreign participation was with investors from Italy, respectively 50,329 (subscribed capital of 3.906 billion dollars), but the highest value of the share capital belongs to Dutch companies, respectively 12.706 billion dollars, in 5,633 companies.
