The degree of filling of the gas storage warehouses is currently 100% and, with what we will produce in the cold season, we should, in a moderate scenario, get through the coming winter without imports, said on Monday, in a press conference, the Minister of Energy, Sebastian Burduja.

“In the normative act related to the preparation for winter, several scenarios were developed regarding the average temperatures and including the possibility for Romania to support other states, in this case to support our brothers across the Prut. In a moderate scenario, Romania won’t have any problem, given the degree of filling. And I’m letting you know that today it’s 100.6%. So we have more than 100% of the technical reserve available in terms of storage capacities. We have 400 million, 417 million to be precise, cubic meters more than last year, in the same period. So, with what we still produce in the cold season, even if it is a smaller production for technical reasons, with what we have in storage, we should we pass without resorting to imports this winter,” the minister claimed.

He emphasized that, if the winter will be very hard and if the Republic of Moldova requests Romania’s support at a level that cannot be covered from stocks and production, there is the option of taking gas from Azerbaijan or resorting to a possible purchase of liquefied natural gas.

“We have the option to take gas from Azerbaijan. We still have this option secured from before my mandate and it is valid until next spring. We are talking about one billion cubic meters that we can draw as needed. Or a possible purchase of the gas in liquefied form from Greece, most likely, or another variant,” said Burduja.
