Rețele Electrice România, part of the PPC group in Romania, has started work to modernize the medium and low voltage networks in Cenad, Timiș County, for the benefit of approximately 1,600 residents. The works are part of a project financed by the Modernization Fund, Key Program 3.2.
“In Cenad, we are investing in the modernization and digitalization of the electricity network to create a resilient and resilient network to the challenges of climate change. The solutions include moving the medium and partially low voltage network from overhead to underground, installing medium voltage switching equipment equipped with protections and that can be controlled remotely to ensure minimal recharging times, as well as replacing our customers’ connections. The project brings benefits in terms of security in electricity supply, has a minimal impact on the environment, while reducing visual pollution to zero, thus contributing to the preservation of the historical appearance of the town. During the works, we will take all necessary measures and make every effort to minimize the possible discomfort felt by customers and the community,” said Mihai Pește, general manager of Rețele Electrice România.
The project has a total value of 58 million lei (VAT included), and has funding from the Modernization Fund of 34.45 million lei.
The works in Cenad consist of the modernization of 8 overhead transformer stations by replacing them with concrete-enclosed transformer stations and introducing them into the automation and remote control system, in order to optimize the electricity distribution service, whether we are talking about the duration of the interruptions, their frequency or the quality of the electricity. During the execution of the works, temporary interruptions of the electricity supply in the targeted areas may occur. These will be scheduled and announced in advance, in order to minimize the discomfort of consumers in Cenad.
The project also includes the modernization of the low-voltage network, by replacing the overhead network over a length of 41.2 km and its reconfiguration, but also the introduction of low-voltage circuits underground over a distance of 2.92 km, respectively of medium-voltage lines over a length of 8.65 km.
Along with the replacement of the electrical network, fiber optic lines will be installed to ensure the fast communication required for remote monitoring and control of the network, as well as the installation of power quality analyzers in each transformer station. The connections of the over 1,600 customers targeted by these network modernizations will be replaced; on this occasion, the measurement groups will be placed at the property boundary.
