The PSD National Political Council decided, on Monday, the party’s exit from the governing coalition, and Marcel Ciolacu will resign from the position of prime minister. The PSD president also stated that the party has decided not to support any candidate in the second round of the presidential elections. In return, the PNL supports Nicuşor Dan in the elections, in the second round, to prevent extremism, declared Cătălin Predoiu, the PNL president. Dan is also supported by the USR.

And former president Traian Băsescu states that the large difference in votes between George Simion (almost 41%) and Nicuşor Dan (approximately 21%) is recoverable and he does not believe that the situation is so dramatic.

“The governing coalition has no legitimacy, at least in this composition. I have proposed to my colleagues to leave the coalition, which will lead to my resignation from the position of prime minister, which I will do after the meeting with you. I have decided that the PSD ministers will remain to discuss with the representatives of the PNL, UDMR and how it is decided, that is how it is done (regarding the interim ministers – ed.). (…) I have decided not to publicly support either of the two candidates in the presidential elections in the second round”, declared the PSD president, Marcel Ciolacu, quoted by Agerpres.

Marcel Ciolacu is to present his resignation to the interim president Ilie Bolojan.

The resignation becomes irrevocable from the moment the president takes note of its submission, but no later than 15 days from the date of submission. The President of Romania takes note of the resignation of the prime minister through a presidential decree.
