OMV Petrom (SNP) marks 25 years since its listing on the Bucharest Stock Exchange (BVB), a period in which the company has significantly transformed itself and created long-term value for shareholders and the Romanian economy. Since 2001, the company’s market capitalization has increased from 1.6 billion RON to approximately 74 billion RON. The total return to shareholders for the period from the end of 2001 to the end of August 2026 was more than 5,000%. So the value of a 1,000 RON investment in OMV Petrom shares at the end of 2001, together with dividends received, would be over 50,000 RON at the end of August 2026.
“Over the past 25 years, OMV Petrom has undergone a profound transformation. We have evolved from a predominantly local oil and gas company to a regional integrated energy company, – a reliable supplier for Romania, contributing approximately one third of the country’s fuel and gas and around 10% of its electricity production. Today, we continue this transformation by developing Neptun Deep, the largest natural gas project in the European Union, and by investing in other low and zero carbon projects. Our objective remains to create long-term value for our shareholders and for the Romanian economy”, said Christina Verchere, CEO of OMV Petrom.
“We celebrate a quarter of a century with OMV Petrom on the Bucharest Stock Exchange – one of the strongest companies in Southeastern Europe and the second largest Romanian issuer on the market by capitalization. In all these years, OMV Petrom has become a benchmark of professionalism, combining corporate governance with ongoing responsibility towards investors. The SNP share, traded individually or through 7 ETFs listed on the BVB that track indices of which it is a part, is a natural choice in the portfolios of hundreds of thousands of Romanians. We are confident that a partner of the caliber of OMV Petrom in the stock exchange ecosystem will continue to enliven Romania’s development and will open new paths towards progress and sustainable energy”, added Remus Vulpescu, General Manager of the Bucharest Stock Exchange.
During the 25 years of presence on the Bucharest Stock Exchange, approximately 2.3 million transactions with SNP shares were made. From the moment of listing until August 31, 2026, investors traded over 61 billion SNP shares worth over RON 26 billion.
OMV Petrom is one of the largest contributors to the state budget, with over 48 billion euros representing taxes, duties and dividends paid between 2005 and 2025. During the same period, the company invested approximately 21 billion euros and allocated approximately 210 million euros for the development of communities in Romania, focusing on environmental protection, education, health and local development.
At the end of June 2026, Romanian shareholders held approximately 46% of the shares (of which the Romanian state held 20.7%, and 25.1% were held by pension funds in Romania, as well as other Romanian individuals and legal entities). More than half a million Romanian individuals were directly shareholders of OMV Petrom and 8.5 million indirectly through local pension funds. OMV Aktiengesellschaft held 51.2% of OMV Petrom shares, while the remaining 3.0% was held by other foreign investors.
As a listed company, OMV Petrom emphasizes sound corporate governance, transparency and open dialogue with all its stakeholders. The company complies with the principles applicable to listed issuers and aims to maintain high standards of reporting, information and investor relations, also reflected in the ARIR Vektor assessment, with a maximum possible score in the last 5 years.
