New historical maximum for the spot price of electricity in Romania

The closing price of the day-ahead market (DAM) reached a new all-time high in September. Calculated as a monthly average, the price increased again sharply to a level three times higher than a year ago, of 662 lei/MWh, according to e-nergia.ro.

In August, the average price was of 555 lei/MWh, a previous record high for the Bucharest market, according to centralized data on the OPCOM platform, marking an increase in the average spot price in September of over 19%, only compared to the previous month.

A new hourly record for the spot market was also set this month. The energy with delivery on September 21, at 20.00, was traded at 1,202 lei/MWh. It is the highest spot price ever recorded on the Bucharest market.

Also in September, a record of the average daily price of the spot market was ticked. The average daily market price for the next day for energy traded on September 14 with delivery on September 15 was of 831 lei/MWh, the highest in history. The previous all-time high had been marked in August.
