National electricity consumption decreased by 5.7% in the first 11 months

Romania’s national electricity consumption decreased by 5.7% in the first 11 months of 2023, compared to the same period of 2022, totaling 44.664 billion kWh, according to data published on Tuesday by the National Institute of Statistics (INS).

Electricity consumption in the economy was 33.900 billion kWh, lower by 4.6%, while the population used 8.6% less electricity, respectively 10.393 billion kWh.

At the same time, public lighting registered a decrease of 19.7%, up to 370.2 million kWh, and the own technological consumption in networks and stations was of 4.488 billion kWh, decreasing by 1.9%.

According to INS data, the export of electricity amounted to 10.426 billion kWh, up by 3.884 billion kWh. Own technological consumption in networks and stations was of 4.488 billion kWh, down by 88.6 million kWh.

Between January 1 and November 30, 2023, primary energy resources decreased by 3%, and electricity resources increased by 1.8% compared to the same period in 2022, according to Agerpres.

The main primary energy resources, in the first 11 months of 2023, totaled 30.049 million tons of oil equivalent (toe), down by 933,000 toe compared to the same period of the previous year.

Domestic production totaled 16.420 million toe, down 81,800 tep (-0.5%) compared to the first 11 months of 2022, and import was 13.629 million toe, down 851,200 tep (-5.9%).

The production from wind power plants, in the period January 1 – November 30, 2023, was 6.930 billion kWh, an increase of 526.5 million kWh compared to the same period of the previous year, and the solar energy produced in photovoltaic installations during this period was of 1.602 billion kWh, down by 120.1 million kWh compared to the corresponding period of 2022.
