The 2% contribution of the energy companies to the National Energy Regulatory Authority (ANRE) according to GEO 114/2018 is exceedingly high and this money should be used to fund projects of energy efficiency, said ANRE’s vice president Zoltan Nagy-Bege, a few hours ago.

“Two days before the approval of GEO 114, ANRE approved the contributions that the companies licensed in 2019 have to pay, it was 0.1% of the turnover. Compared to this, the 2% contribution of GEO 114 is excessively high, we must be honest. We do not need this money for the normal functioning of the Authority. A contribution of 0.1% of turnover would be sufficient,” Bege said, quoted by Agerpres.

According to him, ANRE will propose in the next period the amendment of the legislation so that this money can be used to finance energy efficiency projects.

“It is a sensational opportunity, not to be missed, I can say, it is our proposal that this money should be used for energy efficiency projects, which is why we need to change the legislation, the attributions of ANRE. We already have proposals in this respect, we will propose to Parliament and Government changes to finance energy efficiency projects,” the ANRE official said.

According to the current version of GEO 114, the contribution must now go to the ANRE budget, which is an autonomous authority, entirely financed from its own revenues, independent from decisional, organizational and functional point of view.
