… but 18% of them made layoffs, according to the study “The construction market – statistics and estimates 2020”, by IBC Focus. The experts consulted estimate that in 2021 the focus should be placed on the infrastructure area. “Even if we are currently facing real problems caused by the lack of it, general entrepreneurs are warning and are asking the state to grant funding lines for the realization of much-needed projects, which at the moment place us at the bottom of the EU ranking.” The main focus is the lack of highway and infrastructure projects which often remain at the early stages (design, tender, etc.). “They not only affect us economically, but they also place us in a non-advantageous position when it comes to the number of deaths in traffic, mainly due to the lack of a strong infrastructure,” note the experts quoted by IBC Focus.

General entrepreneurs expect the volume of work to grow most in infrastructure and residential segments in the next 12 months. Only 2% of them mentioned the utility segment among the segments where they expect significant growth in 2021.

The National Strategy and Forecast Commission estimates that the construction sector will contribute with 0,7 percentage points to the real growth of gross domestic product over the period 2020-2022. At the same time, the GDP in the construction sector is expected to increase by 6-7% over the next 4 years, while its share might reach between 6.3 and 7.2%, the IBC Focus report also writes.
