The first phase of Monsson Group’s renewable energy battery storage project is complete, said Bogdan Bădoi, Electrical Engineer, Monsson Group.

“The first stage, with an installed capacity of 6 MW, is ready,” he said, during the “More renewables for Romania” conference, organized by Energynomics.

The project is part of a larger investment to hybridise the 50 MW Mireasa 1 photovoltaic power plant in Constanta county. This wind farm was commissioned 10 years ago.

The battery system is also powered by a photovoltaic park.

According to Bădoi, the entire power generation and storage system will supply 50 MW base at any given time.

“It will ensure the elimination of wind and PV energy volatility and will make the cost side of energy more efficient by storing at times of load on the system and delivering at off-load. With more and more renewable units coming on stream there will be a need for stability in the system,” he added.

The decision to invest in this storage system was taken by Monsson Group for technical reasons and to help achieve the decarbonisation targets set by the European Commission.

“More renewables for Romania” conference was organized by Energynomics, with the support of our partners among which Alive Capital, Astrasun, BCR, Elektra Renewable Support, EnergoBit, Eximprod, Ensys Renewable Solution, ING Bank, LAPP Romania, Metacon, Noark, Photomate, REI Grup, TAW Energy, Volt, Wiren.
