The company “Moldovagaz” will be responsible for supplying natural gas to the Transnistrian region until March 31, 2026, the Board of Directors of the National Agency for Energy Regulation (ANRE) decided on Monday, Moldpres reports.

According to ANRE, the decision comes against the backdrop of the termination, as of September 1, of the supply license held by S.A. “Moldovagaz” and is temporary and transitory in nature, being proposed in accordance with the provisions of national legislation by the Ministry of Energy and coordinated with the Reintegration Policies Bureau.

“The measure aims to ensure the continuity of gas supplies to consumers in the Transnistrian region, avoiding interruptions during a critical period – the cold season,” ANRE announced, according to Agerpres.

Thus, the company will continue to be able to purchase natural gas from the wholesale market in the Republic of Moldova, including through the trading platform managed by ‘Bursa Română de Mărfuri (Romanian Commodities Exchange) Est’ S.R.L., but exclusively for the needs of the Transnistrian region, ANRE specified.

At the same time, S.A. “Moldovagaz” is obliged to establish gas reserves sufficient to cover at least 15% of the average annual consumption of household consumers, as well as enterprises and institutions providing essential social services in the region: by September 30 – at least 50%; by October 31 – 100%.

ANRE also added that it will permanently monitor how S.A. “Moldovagaz” complies with the obligations arising from the status of designated entity. In case of non-compliance, the authority has accountability mechanisms at its disposal, including financial sanctions and withdrawal of this status, at the proposal of the Ministry of Energy.

At the beginning of August, ANRE approved the decision to withdraw the license issued to SA “Moldovagaz” for the activity of supplying natural gas, following the expiration of the granted term and the failure to meet the requirements regarding functional, decision-making and legal separation from other activities in the sector.
