Half of the electricity consumed in the Republic of Moldova, on the right bank of the Nistru River, comes from domestic sources, including renewable energy, and the other half is imports from Romania, said the President of the Republic of Moldova, Maia Sandu.
The leader from Chisinau convened a meeting of the Supreme Security Council for Tuesday, during which the situation in the energy sector and assistance measures for the population were discussed.
“We discussed very concretely today the situation on the right bank and on the left bank, about providing electricity. On the right bank, we have almost half of our generation from domestic sources, including renewable energy, which has increased significantly in recent years, but where we still have a lot to do, and the other important part is imports from Romania,” said Sandu, according to Agerpres.
The President of the Republic of Moldova asked the Government to make efforts to increase financial support to the vulnerable population.
“The government must make more efforts, for media coverage and including for increasing support in the form of energy vouchers, vouchers that come to help especially vulnerable households optimize and reduce their electricity expenses. The tariffs we pay on the right bank are high. We know this. This crisis caused by Gazprom has also led to an increase in electricity tariffs on the right bank. In this context, we want to ensure that economic agents and households will also get through this complicated period and problem more easily. The government has a mechanism through which it will compensate up to 50% of the expenses of economic agents and this is about a third of producers, those most affected by the tariff increase, for whom electricity expenses have a large share in costs. I understand that in the coming days the government will provide more details about this program,” added Maia Sandu.
