Final electricity consumption decreased by 4.3% in the first seven months of 2026, compared to the same period the previous year, while domestic production decreased by 2.9%, data published on Tuesday by the National Institute of Statistics (INS). According to the INS, electricity exports increased by 11.5%, respectively by 930.2 million kWh, to a value of 9.035 billion kWh, according to Agerpres.
According to official statistics, between January 1 and July 31, 2026, primary energy resources decreased by 6.2%, and electricity resources increased by 0.1%, compared to the same period in 2025.
The main primary energy resources totaled 18.138 million tons of oil equivalent (toe), down by 1.201 million toe, year-on-year.
At the same time, domestic production amounted to 9.265 million toe, down by 275,900 toe (-2.9%), and imports stood at 8.872 million toe, down by 9.4% compared to the first seven months of last year.
INS data reveal that, in the reference period, electricity resources were 40.356 billion kWh, up by 54 million kWh.
Thus, the production from thermal power plants amounted to 8.815 billion kWh, down by 7.9%, while the production from hydroelectric power plants was 8.391 billion kWh, up by 1.183 billion kWh (+16.4%), and that from nuclear power plants was 5.355 billion kWh, down by 12.3%.
Also, the production from wind power plants was 3.623 billion kWh (up by 6.7%), and the energy produced in solar photovoltaic installations reached 4.101 billion kWh, up by 41.5%.
At the same time, a final electricity consumption of 28.076 billion kWh (-4.3%) was recorded. The final electricity consumption in the economy decreased by 1.8%, public lighting – by 7%, and household consumption – by 11.9%.
In addition, at the end of July this year, the own technological consumption in networks and stations was 3.244 billion kWh, an increase of 381 million kWh compared to the similar interval in 2025.
