M. Zmelik passes the helms of CEZ Romania to Ondrej Safar, with improved results in 2017

Ondrej Safar will be the new Country Manager of CEZ Romania, starting with August 1, replacing Martin Zmelik, who has led for nearly 5 years the CEZ Group’s operational activities in Romania. The announcement was made in the press conference organized to present the 2017 financial results.

„2017 was marked by the results of the operational success”, summarized Martin Zmelik – Country Manager and Chairman of the Board of CEZ Romania – the main benchmarks of last year. CEZ Romania returned to black with a 420 million lei net profit, an increase of 651 million lei compared to 2016, due to the energy production of CEZ wind farm, the optimization of activities and operational costs and the re-evaluation of tangible and financial assets., says the company.

In 2017, the turbines from Fântânele – Cogealac wind farm produced a total of 1.323 GWh, CEZ Group in Romania being the largest private energy producer from renewable sources.

In distribution, the group continued the transformation process into a digitized company throughout the SMART Transformation program, 2017 being its third year of development and the year that gave a first notable result: a reduced grid energy loss by 8.2 %, compared to 2016. Total investments in 2017 increased by 30 million lei compared to 2016, to 262 million lei, of which over 178 million lei went in state-of-the-art technological equipment (CAPEX from own funds).

In power ang gas supply, CEZ Vânzare brought optimized offers and professional solutions for economic agents from different industries and managed to maintain its client portfolio in a difficult market environment.

The budget for CSR (Corporate Social Responsibility) projects was over 2 million lei and it financed mainly educational projects in the main region of operations of CEZ Romania, in the counties of Argeş, Dolj, Gorj, Mehedinţi, Olt, Vâlcea and Teleorman.

„Even since we came here in 2005, we aimed at building a Romanian company with a foreign investor, not a foreign company”, said Ondrej Safar, the future Country Manager of CEZ România, starting from August 1st. “And this is also our goal today”, he added. Ondrej Safar has been working in the CEZ Group since 2004, and in the period 2005-2016 he has worked in Romania, responsible, among other things, for the actual construction of the Fântânele-Cogealac Wind Farm. Over the past three and a half years, he led Sepaş Enerji, a Turkish company member of the CEZ Group, previously coordinating group operations in Bulgaria.

Doina Vornicu will keep her position as Chief Operations Officer & Member of Management Board of CEZ România.

Next month, Martin Zmelik will take on new responsibilities in the CEZ Group’s headquarters, in Prague. Among these will be the transfer of successful processes and projects from Romania, to the group, including elements related to smart metering in power distribution.
