Prices have decreased both in the area of electricity and natural gas, which is gratifying, but industrial consumers do not have the opportunity to conclude contracts for a period that ensures the predictability of their business, currently being offers strictly for two, three or four months, said Theodor Livinschi, vice-president of the Association of Energy-Consuming Companies (ACCER).

“The monologues at the end of last year did not necessarily lead to the results we wanted. We still have large producers and large industrialists in Romania which are operating at reduced capacity or are effectively in conservation, and this is due to the lack of liquidity with which we we face today in the energy market.(…) Indeed, at the end of last year we were consulted in this regard, but our positions were not exactly taken into account. And, looking briefly at the current situation, yes, it is gratifying that the prices, the price values, have decreased both in the area of electricity and in the area of natural gas. However, industrial consumers do not have the possibility to conclude contracts for a period that would ensure the predictability of their business. At the moment they have offers strictly for two, three, four months, something that does not give companies stability and a clear foundation on future costs,” explained Livinschi, quoted by Agerpres.

He emphasized that there is a need for more competitiveness and mentioned that ACCER believes that the current legislative framework must be changed so that liquidity on the market increases and suppliers can afford to come with offers for longer periods and at the same time in a bigger volume.

“So, as a conclusion to what I said: yes, we are glad that the prices have decreased, we hope that the values will continue to decrease. They are not in our control and I think neither are the participants in the Romanian market. But the most important is to be able to buy, because otherwise we are looking at empty shelves when it comes to buying electricity or natural gas,” pointed out Livinschi.
