The Minister of Energy, Bogdan Ivan, discussed with American officials in Washington about strengthening Romania’s energy security and conveyed that “Romania urgently needs more baseload energy”.
“I am in Washington, D.C., where I was received and treated as a decision-making partner. In meetings with the US Secretary of Energy, Chris Wright, and the US Secretary of the Interior, Doug Burgum, we discussed as equals how to build real energy power: stable capacities, large projects, clear deadlines and execution without excuses. Romania is seen as a strategic actor in the region, and I put on the table exactly what matters: concrete solutions, not slogans. My message was firm: Romania urgently needs more baseload energy,” wrote the Minister of Energy, Bogdan Ivan, in a post published on Tuesday on his Facebook page.
He emphasized that in the last decade Romania has lost about 7,000 MW of production, and the consequences are visible in the competitiveness of the economy and in the pressure on prices.
“I do not sell illusions. If you want a strong industry and lower bills, you need stable, controllable production: nuclear and natural gas. The latest storms in the US and Romania have confirmed the same simple truth: at peak times, when consumption explodes, the system can only withstand energy that does not depend on chance. That is why we agreed to strengthen bilateral cooperation on nuclear and gas and to place Romania at the center of the regional energy architecture, as a provider of stability, not as a spectator”, Ivan pointed out.
In his opinion, Neptun Deep, Cernavodă and Doicești are the projects that change Romania’s status, as they are treated as strategic country objectives.
“We are part of the “Friends of Nuclear” and support the expansion of European cooperation through a “Friends of Gas” format. The direction is clear and I take it: to be strong, you need to produce more energy and, fundamentally, more energy in the band. Decisions are being made now. Neptun Deep, Cernavodă and Doicești are the projects that change Romania’s status. I treat them as strategic national objectives: energy security for the region and the basis for the economy of the future. Because in the AI era, electricity is directly transformed into intelligence, computing power, investments and competitive advantage”, the Minister of Energy said.
