The Minister of Energy, Bogdan Ivan, met on Monday with the Mayor of the Capital, Ciprian Ciucu, to discuss the situation of ELCEN and Termoenergetica as well as that of the district heating system, in the context of the low temperatures forecast for this period.

“Today I met with Mayor General Ciprian Ciucu and together we brought ELCEN and Termoenergetica to the same table.

We discussed the causes that led to this situation, as well as the solutions. Since last week, when we learned about the frosty temperatures forecast for this period, we have been in constant contact with him and have taken the necessary steps to ensure that all repairs to the defective systems are carried out urgently. This is after a breakdown occurred in a hot water boiler of CET Sud the other day. The problem was fixed, but additional damage occurred to the boilers and equipment, in ELCEN’s effort to compensate for losses in the distribution network by supplementing the water flow,” Ivan said in a Facebook post.

He mentioned that ELCEN decided to temporarily reduce the flow and pressure of water in the network, in order to avoid the risk of chain failures, which could have led to the cessation of the supply of the heating agent for a long period, according to Agerpres.

“In order not to risk chain failures, with major risks, which would lead to the cessation of the thermal service for a long period of time, in the middle of winter, ELCEN decided to reduce the flow and pressure of the water in the network. Loading at optimal parameters would have led to irreparable damage to the equipment. To solve the problem, the specialists decided that starting this evening, they would supplement the flow of the other plants (CET Vest and CET Grozăvești) and re-round some thermal points on CET Sud. They hope that in this way the parameters will gradually improve”, the Energy official emphasized.

The minister assured that the system will work, but in emergency mode. “The system will work, and people will have hot water and heat. But, in emergency mode! We will keep you updated on the situation”, the Minister of Energy also wrote on the social network.
