The Hidroelectrica Group recorded a net profit of 1.307 billion lei in the first three months of 2026, up 122% compared to the same period last year, of 589 million lei, according to data submitted to the Bucharest Stock Exchange on Thursday.
Revenues totaled 3.129 billion lei, 67% above the level recorded in the same period last year, with an operating margin of 47% and a net margin of 42%.
As of March 31, 2026, the company’s supply portfolio included 1,312,627 consumption places (LC), registering an increase of 108% compared to the same period of the previous year, when 630,927 LC were registered. This increase of 681,700 LC reflects both the attraction of a significant number of new household customers and a sharp expansion in the non-household segment.
“The evolution of the portfolio reflects the consolidation of the company’s position in the competitive electricity supply market, amid the increase in the commercial attractiveness of the offers and the high level of interest shown by household and non-household customers for the services provided by it,” the report submitted to BVB states, according to Agerpres.
In the first quarter of 2026, the company recorded a significant increase in net electricity production, by approximately 36% compared to the same period of the previous year, reaching a total of 3,608 GWh.
“The Danube flow rate reached a normal level of approximately 6,900 m3/s – above the level recorded in the first months of 2025. Given that this recorded value of hydraulicity manifested itself in a limited time frame, a rapid capitalization of this energy input produced was required, directing it predominantly to the wholesale market. Thus, the quantities sold in this segment increased by 51% compared to Q1 2025”, states the cited source.
Revenues from the wholesale market in the period January-March 2026 recorded an increase of 85% compared to the first quarter of the previous year. This was determined by several factors, including the increase in volumes sold. The commercial strategy adopted aimed to maximize the value for each MWh produced, capitalizing on the flexibility of hydro groups to increase revenues from the wholesale segment. The additional energy volumes generated by the advantageous hydrological context were thus traded efficiently, contributing significantly to the company’s financial results in the first quarter of 2026.
Supply revenues increased by 72% to 1.127 billion lei in the first three months of 2026, from 655 million lei in the same period in 2025. This evolution reflects both the optimization of the supply portfolio structure and commercial strategy, as well as an increase in the customer base and the amount of energy sold.
“In order to remain competitive in an environment characterized by increased pressure on commercial margins and increased consumer mobility, the company has permanently adjusted the structure of commercial offers, aiming both to maintain the attractiveness of its own products and to increase the loyalty of the existing customer portfolio,” the cited source states.
Balancing revenues increased by 13%, to 97 million lei, from 86 million lei recorded in the same period of 2025. The increase is determined by the 53% increase in energy volume on the one hand, offset by the 26% reduction in the selling price in the first three months of 2026, compared to the same period of 2025.
Also, revenues from system services increased by 73%, to 71 million lei, from 41 million lei in the similar period of 2025, and other revenues from customer contracts increased by 5%, to 21 million lei, from 20 million lei.
