Greenvolt Next develops a 2.6 mln. euro PV project in Satu Mare

    Greenvolt Next Romania, part of the Greenvolt Group, has signed a new agreement with Sam Mills for the development and operation of a photovoltaic project for self-consumption, with a capacity of over 2 MW, integrated with a battery energy storage system (BESS) of 10.03 MWh. The investment value exceeds 2.6 million euros and marks the expansion of the partnership between the two companies, bringing the total value of renewable energy solutions implemented for the Satu Mare group to over 2.8 million euros.

    Developed under a Power Purchase Agreement (PPA), the project allows Sam Mills – one of the main players in the milling industry, with exports to 35 countries – to access green energy without an initial investment, while benefiting from stable and predictable costs. With the integration of the new system, the company is expected to achieve an energy autonomy level of over 30% in its operations and significantly reduce its exposure to energy market volatility, in an increasingly uncertain context.

    The solution includes a 2.16 MW photovoltaic system, consisting of 3,660 panels, together with a battery energy storage system with a capacity of 10.03 MWh. Thus, the surplus energy produced during periods of low consumption can be stored and used later, depending on operational needs. The integration of the storage system contributes to the optimization of consumption and a more efficient correlation between energy production and the operational requirements of an industrial unit operating continuously.

    The project complements a first installation already operational, a 456 kWp (780 panels) ground-mounted system, developed under a 5-year PPA – which is estimated to generate savings of over 100,000 euros for Sam Mills over the term of the contract.

    “The partnership with Sam Mills reflects the accelerated pace at which industrial companies in the North-West region adopt local energy production solutions. For Greenvolt Next, this project demonstrates our ability to develop and implement solutions adapted to the real consumption of customers, in a context in which cost predictability is becoming increasingly important”, said Filipe Dias, Country Manager Greenvolt Next Romania.

    “Green energy and cost predictability are essential, especially in the current geopolitical context and in an increasingly volatile energy market, as they offer us more stability and better control over costs. At the same time, sustainability is becoming increasingly important, as we move towards more sustainable products and collaborate with partners who are actively looking for such solutions. The integration of storage systems plays an important role in optimizing energy consumption, especially given that our activity is carried out in three shifts, contributing to covering part of the night-time energy needs. I believe that the future is not only about producing energy, but also about managing it in a smarter way,” said Cristian Babiciu, CEO Sam Mills.

    This project strengthens Greenvolt Next’s presence in Romania, especially in the North-West region, where the company currently operates 22 projects, with a total installed capacity of 7.2 MW. Together, they contribute to an estimated annual reduction of 5,800 tons of CO2.
