In the context of the significant reduction of the price of electricity on the wholesale market, the government plans to liberalize the price of electricity for consumers 6 months earlier, respectively from 1 July 2020, which will lead to lower bills for consumers, said Niculae Havrileț, Secretary of State responsible for energy in the Ministry of Economy, Energy and Business Environment.

“The price of natural gas will certainly be liberalized on July 1. (…) We are concerned about this aspect in both markets. The upstream markets, especially wholesale, with the ultra low level of this period, press on the price to the final consumer in the sense of the decrease. Why not let them benefit from this wholesale drop? We are discussing about making a liberalization in advance in the electricity market, because ANRE can no longer impose administrative prices on electricity producers, following a court dispute with producers in the nuclear and hydro area. So it can no longer set prices, but given the positive evolution of the wholesale market, we also want to liberalize the electricity market, with prices lower than they are now in the final consumers’ bills, “stated Niculae Havrileț, according to Newsenergy.ro.
