Greenvolt Group, through Greenvolt Power, has secured 284 million euros in project financing for the construction of the 253.1 MW Gurbănești wind farm in Călărași County, Romania. The project is currently under construction and is expected to reach commercial operation by the end of 2027.

The financing was structured with a syndicate of eight financial institutions: UniCredit S.p.A., Erste Group Bank AG, Banca Comercială Română, Siemens Financial Services (through Siemens Bank), Société Générale, BRD, ING Bank N.V. and Alpha Bank S.A.

The wind farm will comprise 42 wind turbines supplied by GE Vernova, under a contract announced in December 2025. The turbines will feature 158-metre rotor diameters, while the project spans the municipalities of Gurbănești, Nicolae Bălcescu and Valea Argovei.

632 million euros in financing secured for the Wind Rose projects

Gurbănești is part of the broader Wind Rose platform, with a total capacity of approximately 506 MW, which also includes the 253.1 MW Ialomița wind project. For the Ialomița project, Greenvolt announced in February 2026 that it had secured a 348 million euro financing package structured with six financial institutions.

With the latest transaction, the total financing announced for the two Wind Rose projects has reached 632 million euros. Both wind farms are under construction, with commercial operation expected in 2027.

The projects have also secured support under Romania’s Contracts for Difference (CfD) scheme. In a previous interview with Energynomics, João Manso Neto, CEO of Greenvolt Group, confirmed that both wind farms had secured CfD contracts, with Gurbănești also benefiting from the results of the August 2025 auction. The mechanism provides greater revenue predictability for the contracted capacity and supports the bankability of the investments.

Greenvolt’s Romanian project pipeline approaches 1 GW

According to the company, Greenvolt Group has a significant utility-scale pipeline in Romania, comprising 707 MW of wind, 58 MW of solar PV and 209 MW of battery energy storage projects. These figures cover projects at different stages of development, rather than exclusively operational capacity.

João Manso Neto emphasised that wind energy remains a particular focus for the Group in Romania, while its expansion strategy also includes distributed generation solutions developed through Greenvolt Next for corporate and industrial clients.

Greenvolt Group is part of KKR’s portfolio and operates across 20 geographies in Europe, North America and Asia.
