Government Ordinance transposing Directive 944, which will allow for the conclusion of long-term power purchase agreements (PPAs), is on the agenda and will be approved by the end of the year, said on Thursday Minister of Energy, Virgil Popescu.

“The energy sales market in the European Union is made in such a way that it closes at the highest price. If you don’t have a long-term contract, you have to think about making those contracts longer-term. We have in the approval circuit an Ordinance transposing a Directive, which will be approved by the end of the year, which will allow the conclusion of long-term bilateral contracts, for predictability,” Popescu said, according to Agerpres.

The official also said that the Ministry of Energy has supplemented the budget allocated to a program for small and medium-sized enterprises that want to invest in green energy.

“We have PNRR on the Ministry of Energy, we have the Modernization Fund, where there are over 10 billion euros for green energy and all types of energy, and we have that program for small and medium enterprises that we have now supplemented at 680 million lei – we want to help all those who have submitted, even if they get a lower score. I wish there were many more companies that use this type of green energy that, in the end, if we finance it 100% or 70% of the investment value, is a cheap energy. It is a pity to have roofs of halls, roofs of unused buildings and to think of doing photovoltaic or wind production in agricultural fields, when we have at our disposal enterprises, companies that have available space,” he also said.
