Romanian Prime Minister Nicolae Ciucă announced on Thursday that the Government will approve the emergency ordinance on combating speculative actions and asked the ministries of Energy and Finance to check how the current price of fuels has been formed.

“In today’s meeting, as we requested more than a month ago and at the last government meeting, we will approve the emergency ordinance on combating speculative actions and for amending and supplementing some normative acts. It is an emergency ordinance that we have a duty to approve, so that we can avoid in exceptional situations, situations that we have already been able to see happening, both during the COVID-19 pandemic and during the first period since the start of the Russian military action in Ukraine and we have the duty to protect our citizens, we have the duty to protect our business environment,” Ciuca stated, at the beginning of the Government meeting, according to Agerpres.

The prime minister added that it was important to ensure a “well-regulated and honest framework between supply and demand” in order to combat “any artificial increase in prices”.

“And because we are at this chapter, I want to ask the Ministry of Energy and the Ministry of Finance to check fuel price elements so that we can have a decision at the Government level on how this fuel price level has been reached,” added the prime minister.
