The eighth edition of the international conference Condition Monitoring, Diagnosis and Maintenance (CMDM) is currently taking place in Bucharest, organized by CIGRE Romania with the support of CIGRE Paris.
A paradigm shift is currently taking place – from corrective maintenance to condition-based and reliability-based maintenance, emphasized Ciprian Diaconu, President of CIGRE Romania, in his opening remarks. “While in the past the focus was almost exclusively on corrective maintenance, today it is essential to use new predictive diagnostic technologies to detect the actual condition of equipment and extend its life or replace it before an incident occurs,” he said.
Other speakers on the first day of the conference included Konstantin Papailiou, President of CIGRE Global, Corina Popescu, Chairwoman of the Board of Directors of Moldelectrica, Cristian Secoșan, General Manager of Delgaz Grid, and Florin Pop, General Manager of EnergoBit. The event brings together over 200 participants and 20 partner companies, confirming its status as the world’s largest conference dedicated to maintenance in power systems.
Konstantin Papailiou recalled the historic role of CIGRE, founded in 1921, and stressed the importance of attracting a new generation of specialists. “The energy transition cannot be achieved without the involvement of young people. One very important thing is that CIGRE is in a solid financial position, and thanks to this, on January 1, we will launch the Innovation and Education Fund, designed to finance innovative and educational projects for young specialists.”

Specialists from over 12 countries—researchers, engineers, and representatives of the most important companies in the sector—present innovative solutions to the technical challenges of the energy transition. The agenda includes scientific sessions, technical tutorials, interactive exhibitions, networking sessions, and a technical visit to an electrical station in Bucharest.
The CMDM 2025 conference also reflects the spirit of regional cooperation. Corina Popescu, representing Moldelectrica, spoke about Moldova’s progress in connecting to the European system and about plans for new connection lines with Romania, Suceava–Bălți and Strășeni–Gutinaș.
Cristian Secoșan, General Manager of Delgaz Grid, presented the company’s recent projects: the implementation of the ADMS (Advanced Distribution Monitoring System), the smart metering platform, and the REDFlex project, developed in collaboration with Transelectrica. At the same time, Delgaz Grid became the first distributor in Romania to introduce live working, and through the Spectrum AERO project, it uses drones to inspect power lines.
Energynomics is a media partner of the CMDM 2025 International Conference, organized biennially by CIGRE Romania—a global benchmark for professionals who define the future of maintenance and safety in electrical power systems.
