The European Union imported liquefied gas from Russia worth 4.48 billion euros in the first six months of this year, up from 3.47 billion euro in the first half of last year (H1), according to figures published by Eurostat on Monday, DPA reports.

Overall, the bloc imported liquefied gas worth a total of around 26.9 billion euros in the first half. Most of the liquefied gas, worth around 13.7 billion euro, was imported from the US, according to Agerpres.

In the whole of 2024, the US was responsible for almost 45% of the EU’s total liquefied gas imports, meaning the US was the bloc’s largest supplier of liquefied gas, the European Commission reported.

Unlike Russian oil and coal, the EU has not yet imposed sanctions on Russian natural gas, due to the increased dependence of some member states. Liquefied gas delivered by ships and natural gas delivered by pipelines, including via TurkStream, continue to reach the bloc.
