Ensys is in talks to build a 20 MW photovoltaic park and has started, through a subsidiary, to build batteries to store electricity, said Octavian Crișan, chairman of the company’s board of directors, at the conference “2024: A defining year for the renewable energy sector in Romania”.

“We are approaching 100 MW installed at prosumers alone, but we are also going to do PV parks due to high demand. We have a 20 MW PV project under discussion,” he said.

Also, a company from the Ensys group started manufacturing lithium batteries in Oradea two months ago. The factory currently has the capacity to produce 4-5 MWh batteries per month, but the company’s goal is to reach a capacity of 300 MWh per year.

The company has a team of 500 employees in five regional centres and this year aims to install a further 100 MW of photovoltaic panels for prosumers. In 2023, 90% of the company’s 4,500 unique customers were residential.

According to Crișan, electric car batteries could be used as batteries to balance the energy system due to their steady increase in recent years. Crișan estimates that this could lead to an additional storage capacity of 10-15 GWh, but specific legislation needs to be created.
