ENGIE Romania and Saint-Gobain Romania have announced a partnership to build the largest photovoltaic park in Romania, located on the site of the company’s glass factory. The result of this partnership will be a photovoltaic panel system, with an installed capacity of 8.6 MWp, for the production of renewable energy serving the industrial site in Călărași. The energy produced will be used 100% for self-consumption.

Ground-mounted photovoltaic panels will provide about 20% of the Călărași glass factory’s electricity needs, avoiding more than 2,400 tons of CO2 per year. The amount of green energy produced is estimated at over 14,000 MWh/year.

“The partnership with Saint-Gobain is another step towards strengthening our expertise in providing green energy solutions tailored to the needs of our customers,” said Eric Stab, President and CEO of ENGIE Romania.

In a dynamic and volatile energy market context, on-site renewable electricity generation is a sustainable solution that offers cost predictability and at the same time a significant reduction in carbon footprint.

“For Saint-Gobain, sustainability is one of our priorities,” said Ovidiu Păscuțiu, CEO Saint-Gobain Romania. “We hope that this initiative will be an example to follow for the whole industry that is already making efforts towards environmentally friendly practices and we are sure that by doing so we will further strengthen our goal of making the world we live in a more sustainable place through concrete actions.”

Globally, the Saint-Gobain Group is committed to reducing carbon emissions by 33% by 2030 compared to 2017, and numerous programs and measures are already in place to support this goal, such as setting an internal carbon price for both investment and R&D projects. This approach has been applied to guide all operational decisions to generate low carbon and achieve the Group’s goal – “Making the World a Better Home”.

As a leader in low-carbon energy solutions, ENGIE is working to accelerate the transition to an environmentally neutral economy. The company provides customers with tailor-made green energy solutions, with the goal of eliminating the equivalent of 45Mt CO2 every year and achieving carbon neutrality by 2045.
