PlayEnergy is an educational project dedicated to secondary and high schools with the aim to promote students’ understanding about energy through smart and creative learning methods. Teachers from secondary and high schools can submit projects to participate in the competition between September 10th – December 22nd, 2018.

“We are happy to further develop the PlayEnergy educational program in 2018 as well, a competition that encourages young people to be brave, creative and innovative. We believe that the educational process must be based on an Open Power approach, transparent and open, through which we can provide young people with solid knowledge and speak openly about the future and the intelligent use of resources, starting with electricity. Smart power grids, renewable energy sources, home automation systems, smart meters, e-mobility, they all represent the future. It is our duty to convey to younger generations the consideration for a sustainable future, the improvement of the quality of life and the protection of our planet,” stated Georgios Stassis, Country Manager of Enel in Romania.

PlayEnergy is Enel’s initiative dedicated to schools in order to build, together with children, a sustainable, innovative and open future for everyone. A future based on knowledge and intelligent and creative use of energy. This year’s theme is “Start Up Your Energy!” and aims to make young people the protagonists of new ways to tackle energy every day. Students will be able to choose fresh topics such as: E-Home, E-Mobility, E-City, E-Power and E-World.

The competition is organized in collaboration with the Ministry of National Education and addresses secondary schools and high schools across the country.

Terms of Participation

In order to participate, teachers must form and coordinate a team of a maximum of five students from the same studying stage (secondary or high school). The projects can be submitted electronically or any another format (power point, practical applications, experiments). This year, teachers and students can download the PlayEnergy 2018 kit from the dedicated Play Energy section on www.enel.ro. The kit is a series of materials which include information on energy resources, experiments and innovations worldwide, with exercises and suggestions for projects. The participants can also access http://playenergy.enel.com, available in all languages of participating countries: this is an essential instrument to connect classes involved in the project where teachers and students can find, among other things, educational materials, multimedia contents, games and interactive experiments.

The deadline to register projects in the competition is December 22nd, 2018. After registration, the projects will enter into the regional selection phase. For each region, a jury of experts will select the top three teams for each studying stage (3 projects for secondary schools, 3 for high schools), based on several criteria, such as relevance to the theme, creativity, originality. The regional jury can also give special awards that would allow access to the selection at national level. In the second stage of the judging phase, a national jury will select, out of all projects accepted at regional level, the first three teams for each studying stage, based on the same criteria. The winners, both teachers and students, as well as the institution they represent, will be awarded sponsorships to sustain innovation and high-tech equipment.
