The state-owned company Electrocentrale București (ELCEN), controlled by the Ministry of Energy, the main supplier of thermal energy for the centralized heating system in the Capital, but also one of the most important electricity producers in the country, received 6 bids in a tender for the construction of a new cogeneration power plant, according to Profit.ro.

The procurement procedure, launched in December last year, aims to conclude a “turnkey” contract for the implementation of a high-efficiency cogeneration unit, fueled by natural gas, on the company’s site at the current CET Sud, in the Vitan neighborhood. It is designed to have an installed electrical power of 275 MW and a thermal power of 214 MWth (185 Gcal/h).

The bidders are the Egyptian energy facility construction company Elsewedy Electric, the Spaniards from Tecnicas Reunidas (with the Romanian construction company Ness Proiect Europe SRL as subcontractor), the Turks from Calik Enerji, their compatriots from Kalyon (in consortium with the Spaniards from Cox Energy EPC), the Italians from Bonatti SpA Parma and the association between the also Italian company KT-Kinetics Technology and the Azerbaijanis from BCC Group CJSC. “Today, March 17, the opening of the bids for the construction of the new cogeneration plant at CET Bucharest Sud took place. The interest is solid: 6 international economic operators submitted bids for the implementation of the project. This moment confirms not only the attractiveness of the project, but also the market’s confidence in the direction of ELCEN’s development and in its strategic role in the National Energy System,” ELCEN reported.
