The Board of Directors of Electrocentrale București (ELCEN) has decided to appoint Mihai Volf, the company’s Legal and Procurement Director, as an interim general manager.
“Following the DNA’s establishment of the judicial control measure regarding the General Manager and the Commercial Manager of ELCEN, the company’s Board of Directors met urgently and decided to appoint Mr. Mihai Volf, Legal and Procurement Director of ELCEN, as Interim General Manager. With this decision, the Board of Directors aims to ensure the operational continuity and stability of the company, maintaining the activity of producing thermal and electrical energy essential for consumers in Bucharest and for the National Energy System,” the company states in a press release.
According to the cited source, Mihai Volf has a solid experience of over 37 years within the company, being responsible for the legal management and operational compliance of ELCEN.
“His appointment as interim CEO aims to ensure transparency and efficiency in the company’s executive management. We emphasize once again that the company’s activity is not affected and operates within normal parameters, and the public service of providing thermal energy to the residents of the Capital continues without interruption. Our priority is to maintain the company’s stability, ensure essential services and transparency in the management of ELCEN’s activity. We trust that Mr. Mihai Volf’s experience and professionalism will allow the company to safely navigate this period,” the company’s Board of Directors announced.
Claudiu Crețu, CEO of Societăția Comerciale Electrocentrale București S.A. (ELCEN București) has been placed under judicial control by the DNA for a period of 60 days, being accused of bribery, DNA announced on Wednesday, according to Agerpres.
The same measure was taken in the case of Cristian Zamfiroi, the commercial director of ELCEN, prosecuted for committing two crimes of complicity in bribery and one crime of bribery.
According to a DNA press release, on July 1, the general director of ELCEN allegedly received, through his accomplice, Cristian Zamfiroi, in the office of a commercial company in Bucharest, the amount of 40,000 lei from its representative, in connection with the acceleration of the approval of payment operations related to invoices issued by the respective company to Electrocentrale București SA.
Prosecutors also claim that, on July 10, Claudiu Crețu allegedly demanded, through his accomplice Zamfiroi, from the administrator of a company, the amount of 1,565,000 euros, in connection with the sale – purchase of a land owned by the respective commercial company.
Also, on July 30, Cristian Zamfiroi allegedly demanded 50,000 lei from the administrator of a commercial company, in contractual relations with ELCEN, in connection with the performance of acts that fell within his job duties.
During the judicial control, the two are not allowed to leave the territory of Romania and cannot exercise their functions as directors within ELCEN.
DNA mentions that investigations are also being carried out in the file against other persons for committing corruption crimes.
