The European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) is providing a 29.9 million euro loan to the municipality of Brasov for energy rehabilitation in public buildings.

The Bank will finance the renovation of 20 public buildings, representing educational and administrative buildings. The project includes thermal insulation measures, structural reinforcements, installation of heat pumps and modernization of technical systems to increase energy efficiency and resource efficiency.

These improvements will reduce energy and resource consumption, reduce carbon emissions and pollution, and increase user comfort and safety, in line with European Union environmental standards. Buildings are among the largest energy consumers in the EU, so increasing energy efficiency is essential for the decarbonization process

With this project, Brașov becomes the seventh city in Romania to join the EBRD’s “Green Cities” program, dedicated to supporting communities in identifying and solving urban challenges. The Bank will support Brașov in developing a Green Cities Action Plan, a document that will set priorities for future green investments and policies, responding to the city’s most important environmental issues.
