Demand for Eaton’s solutions in Romania is growing, fuelled by the development of the government cloud and the digitalisation of public infrastructure. The American company estimates a turnover of more than $400 million on the local market, said Gabriel Tache, Country Sales Manager of Eaton Electric Romania.

“Demand for Eaton’s data centre solutions will be driven in large part by the growth of the government cloud, which is still in a continual process of expansion. There is a strong need to digitise the entire government infrastructure. At the same time, in Romania, more and more companies are starting to carry out co-location activities in the data centre area”, said Tache at the DigitALL 2025 conference organised by Energynomics.

Eaton is emerging as the country’s largest manufacturer and exporter of electro-technical equipment, with around 2,500 employees and three local factories producing key components to power data centres.

One of the company’s most recent innovations is the “UPS as the Grid” concept, which transforms UPS systems (traditionally used for energy storage) into temporary suppliers of electricity to the grid. This system helps stabilise grid frequency and offers a new level of flexibility in managing power consumption in data centres – especially in high-demand environments.

“We’re at a time when data centres are becoming more power-hungry and redundancy standards require doubling installed capacity. In this context, the UPS becomes a strategic point of intervention in the network, not just a backup element,” said Tache.

From his point of view, Romania is in a favourable position for the sustainable development of data centres, thanks to its substantial renewable energy resources. Moreover, European regulations require that part of the energy consumed in such infrastructures be green, and Eaton integrates this requirement in the design of its solutions.

At the same time, the company is betting on digitisation as a solution to increase energy efficiency, and recent studies show that digital technologies can considerably increase the capacity of existing energy supply without the need for new power plants.

Eaton operates in more than 170 countries and has a turnover of nearly $20bn.
